When I was trying to find a name for this album, I came across the concept of 'Valence.' Which, in psychology, means the positive and negative aspects of emotions. It reminded me of life, where you have good times and bad times. So that's something I went for with this album: Good times accompanied by bad times. Because without both, life is dull and pointless.
After my last release under INTERIOREM, I had trouble writing that type of music. I would sit for hours and try to come up with something to no avail. Eventually I started experimenting with different sounds and I wrote what would eventually become Distorted View. Smile was the second song I wrote. It seemed like writing it came pretty natural to me, so that's when I decided to make a change in sound. Thus, ÉVOLUER was born.
Now I'll talk a little bit about some of the songs on this album. The inspiration for Close came from a dream I had. There's not much more to say about this song except it was a very important one for me, and I really had fun making this one. Nostos is a very short, but charming song. I fall in love with the outro to this one every time I hear it. The word 'Nostos' is Greek, meaning 'the return home.' I wanted to give the feeling like you were on your way home finally. Cruel Lullaby was a tough song to write. Basically, this one is about days that start off good, but turn to shit. I wanted to have it start off nice, get sort of dark, and then finish similarly to the way it started; to sort of symbolize how days can start off nice, turn bad, and then it starts all over again.
